What is a distorted hair follicle and how can electrolysis treat it
September 25, 2017Surprising Advantages of Cold Weather
January 9, 2018The most common asked question is: what does Electrolysis feel like, will it hurt?
With continually advancing technology, equipment and treatment protocol, Electrolysis is more comfortable and effective than ever before.
However, different people have different pain thresholds, and they can or can not feel discomfort depending on many factors like time of the day, time of the month, area to be treated, age etc.
We, as professional electrologists understand that and try to help our clients by providing some true and proven before treatment tips to have a relaxing, positive electrolysis hair removal experience.
*Hydrate and moisturize – if the skin is well moisturized and you are well hydrated the probe will slide better into the follicle, the root will detach easier, the treatment will be less painful and the healing process will be faster. Drink a lot of water and use a moisturizer appropriate for your skin type.
*Avoid caffeine – caffeine sometimes makes you more irritable and tense so you are not relaxed during treatment. Have a cup of chamomile tea instead; it might even make you take a short restful nap while having the treatment. Who wouldn’t want that?
*You might not want to make an appointment during your menstruation– Not everybody, but some clients might be more pain sensitive during these few days. So, if that’s the case with you, plan the next treatment accordingly.
*Take an over the counter mild pain reliever, like Advil, 30min to an hour before treatment- it will reduce discomfort and help the healing process afterwards.
*Grab a snack before a longer appointment- it will help curb your hunger and make you feel more comfortable.
*Wear comfortable clothes, esp if you have treatments on the legs, body and bikini –tight clothes will rub on the treated area and irritate it. Loose clothing will let the area breathe and heal better.
*Emla (Eutectic Mixture of Local Anesthetics)– you can either apply this numbing cream at home or you can come to the office 30min before your appointment and apply it here. It will help take the edge off the discomfort and allow for a better experience.
*Relaxing music and aromatherapy– At Hairless NYC Clinic we play light, relaxing music and also use aromatherapy as another helpful tool to make our clients relaxed . Lavender, ylang ylang, geranium, eucalyptus, tea tree, patchouli, lemongrass etc are used in combination depending on the season, ex eucalyptus, lavender and tea tree works very well during fall and winter, to calm and protect during cold and flu season.
